What goes into a Jain biodata
A Jain biodata includes a few details that matter most to the community. These sit alongside your usual personal and family information.
Sect comes first
Shwetambar or Digambar. Often the sub-sect too, like Sthanakvasi, Terapanth, Oswal or Porwal.
Shwetambar biodatas often mention Sangh affiliation and native city near the top. Digambar biodatas often lead with Panth and gotra instead.
Both are common. It depends on your family's convention.
Gotra still matters
Gotra is your family's clan lineage, usually traced through the father's side.
Jain gotra isn't the same system as Hindu gotra, even though the word is shared. Some families avoid a match when both sides share the same gotra.
Fill in your gotra, and your family will know exactly what it means.
Say "Jain vegetarian"
Strict Jain vegetarian is different from plain vegetarian. It rules out onion, garlic and root vegetables. Some families also avoid eating after sunset.
State your diet clearly. It helps the other family understand your household from the start.
Horoscope details are optional
Rashi, Nakshatra and Manglik status appear on many Jain biodatas. Families in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh often match kundalis alongside sect and gotra.
Many other families skip this step. Add these fields only if your family uses them. Leave them blank otherwise, and they simply won't appear on your biodata.
The rest is familiar ground
Age, height, education, profession and family background. The same fields found on any marriage biodata.
